Our vision
A trusted and globally connected knowledge environment in which Nigerian and African scholarship is discoverable, credible, visible and useful.
NAPiD supports the assessment, indexing, hosting, discovery and responsible measurement of scholarly publications from Nigeria and Africa, while connecting them to a wider world of knowledge.
The National Academic Publications and Indexing Database (NAPiD) is a specialised national platform for academic discovery, journal assessment, publication indexing, hosting and research intelligence. It brings scholarly publications, journals, institutions, authors and student research into an organised environment designed to strengthen visibility, credibility and access.
NAPiD operates as a Special National Index of Academic Publications (SNIAP) under the mandate of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD), as approved by the Federal Executive Council of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
A trusted and globally connected knowledge environment in which Nigerian and African scholarship is discoverable, credible, visible and useful.
To provide dependable infrastructure through which knowledge can be assessed, published, indexed, hosted, discovered and responsibly measured.
NAPiD supports the discovery, assessment, indexing, hosting and responsible dissemination of journal articles, reviews, books, book chapters, conference papers and proceedings, projects, dissertations, theses, datasets, audiovisual scholarly materials and other recognised forms of academic publication.
Evaluates journals and scholarly publications against transparent academic, editorial, ethical and technical requirements before indexing.
Makes credible scholarly outputs easier to find through structured metadata, search, institutional connections and persistent identifiers.
Provides dependable digital hosting for journals, books, conference proceedings and other recognised academic publications.
Supports journal and article workflows, metadata management, DOI services, author information and publication records.
Helps universities, polytechnics, colleges, research institutions and publishers present their scholarly contributions coherently.
Organises dependable publication and institutional information for scholarship, policy, planning, measurement and responsible comparison.
NAPiD is operated under a national sovereign agenda by the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD), with institutional support from agencies of government including FMoE, NUC, NBTE, NCCE and TETFund, among others.
The platform is administered by the League of Academic Journal Editors of Nigeria (LAJEN) in collaboration with NERD.

The three functions are connected, but each has a distinct responsibility within the national scholarly information environment.
Preserves and organises education and research records, including institutional scholarly outputs and student research.
Indexes and hosts approved academic publications, enables discovery and connects journals, authors, institutions and research records.
Supports structured evaluation of journals and provides assessment evidence for informed indexing decisions.
In international context, NAPiD is Nigeria’s national counterpart in purpose to scholarly discovery and indexing infrastructures such as Scopus, SCImago, Garuda and CNKI. Its design and responsibilities are shaped by Nigeria’s own academic, institutional and sovereign-data priorities.
Submission to NAPiD does not automatically confer indexed status. Journals and publications must satisfy the applicable assessment, verification, editorial, ethical and approval requirements. This protects the integrity of the index and helps users distinguish submitted material from publications that have completed the relevant quality process.
Explore credible academic knowledge, discover institutions and journals, or begin the process of bringing a publication into Nigeria’s national academic index.
