Abstract

This study details the assessment of radionuclide transfer factor from soil to vegetable in Odeda LGA, Abeokuta, Ogun state. The activity concentrations of the radionuclides ( 40K, 226Ra and 232Th) in the samples, were obtained using NaI(Tl) detector. Four (4) samples of soils and vegetables were collected. A total of Eight (8) samples were collected from four different farms and the mean activity concentration in the soils ranged from 364.885Bq/kg for 40K, 75.955Bq/kg for 226Ra, and 149.991Bq/kg for 232Th for the soils; while for the vegetable samples the mean values were 1037.389 Bqkg-1 for 40K, 78.328 Bqkg-1 for ²²⁶Ra, 245.776 Bqkg-1 for 232Th. The total annual effective rate (Svyr-1) ranged from 1878.7 to 5615.4 (Svyr-1) with a mean average of 3964.5 (Svyr-1). All the values obtained were significantly higher than the limits specified by UNSCEAR 2000.
