MANAGEMENT OF LABOUR RELATION IN AN ORGANISATION
Abstract
This study examines the management of labour relations in an organisation, with a focus on the interactions between management and employees and how these relationships influence organisational performance. The study explores the mechanisms adopted by management in handling labour relations, the role of trade unions, and the impact of effective communication, collective bargaining, and conflict resolution on workplace harmony. The research adopts a descriptive research design and makes use of both primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data were collected through the administration of questionnaires and interviews, while secondary data were obtained from textbooks, journals, and relevant official publications. The data collected were analysed using simple statistical tools such as tables and percentages to ensure clarity and ease of understanding. Findings from the study reveal that effective management of labour relations promotes industrial peace, enhances employee morale, and improves organisational productivity. However, the study also identifies challenges such as poor communication, inadequate implementation of labour policies, and management–labour conflicts as major factors affecting harmonious labour relations in organisations. The study concludes that proper management of labour relations is essential for organisational stability and growth. It therefore recommends improved communication channels, regular consultation between management and employees, and adherence to established labour laws and policies to foster mutual understanding and sustainable industrial harmony.
