PETROGRAPHY AND GROUNDWATER POTENTIALS INVESTIGATION USING VERTICAL ELECTRICAL SOUNDING (VES) EAST OF MIRI JOS ROAD BAUCHI STATE
Abstract
This study examines the petrographic characteristics and groundwater potential of the area east of Miri–Jos Road, Bauchi State, using Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES). The research aims to identify subsurface lithological units and evaluate their suitability for groundwater accumulation. Schlumberger electrode configuration was employed at selected VES stations. Results revealed layered subsurface structures consisting of topsoil, weathered basement, fractured basement, and fresh basement. The weathered and fractured basement zones were identified as the main aquifer units with moderate to high groundwater potential. The study provides useful geophysical information for groundwater development and borehole siting in the area.
