Abstract

This study examines the role of mass media in promoting girl-child education in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, focusing on Borno Radio and Television (BRTV). The study aims to assess how BRTV advocates for girl-child education, the effectiveness of its programs, and the challenges faced in its implementation. Using a survey method, data were collected from parents, teachers, and students to evaluate public perceptions of BRTV’s role in promoting girl-child education. Findings reveal that while BRTV has contributed to raising awareness and encouraging enrollment, factors such as cultural resistance, limited media reach, and insufficient funding hinder its impact. Despite these challenges, respondents acknowledged that BRTV’s programs have positively influenced attitudes toward girl-child education. The study recommends increased government and stakeholder investment in media advocacy, improved program funding, and stronger collaborations between BRTV and educational institutions to enhance the effectiveness of its campaigns.
