PLANTS COMPOSITION AND ABUNDANCE IN WUSHISHI
Abstract
Tree is an integral part of Forest ecosystem. They plays a vital role in meeting resource
conservation and management needs in both rural and urban areas and this is not excluded from
academic environment. It is therefore pertinent to have records of trees in academic environment
since they are part of urban forest. The study assessed tree composition and abundance in
Wushishi Town with a view to providing baseline information necessary for effective
management of the trees. A stratified sampling technique was adopted in the study. The Town
was stratified into three strata (Site A, B and C). Each of the trees found in the strata was
identified to species level with their scientific name, local name and family. A total number of
155 plants were collected out of which 11 species and 8 families were identified in selected
habitats at Wushishi. Azadrachta indica ranks highest (21.3%).
