IMPACT OF BUSINESS ETHICS ON ORGANIZATIONAL PROFITABILITY AND GROWTH (A STUDY OF UNION BANK NIGERIAN PLC, ABA)

ABSTRACT Ethical conduct has increasingly become an essential determinant of organizational success in modern business environments. Organizations today are not only judged based on their financial performance but also on their ethical behavior, transparency, and responsibility toward stakeholders. This study examines the impact of business ethics on organizational profitability and growth with specific reference to Union Bank Nigeria Plc, Aba. The primary objective of this research is to determine how ethical practices influence business performance, employee behavior, customer trust, and long-term organizational sustainability. The study also investigates whether adherence to ethical standards improves corporate reputation and contributes to increased profitability. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to staff members and management of Union Bank Nigeria Plc Aba. Secondary data were obtained from academic journals, textbooks, and other scholarly publications on business ethics and organizational performance. The collected data were analyzed using statistical techniques including percentages, tables, and simple analytical interpretation. Findings from the study revealed that ethical practices significantly influence organizational profitability and growth. It was discovered that ethical leadership, transparency in financial dealings, honesty in customer relations, and fairness in employee treatment contribute positively to organizational performance. The research also showed that organizations that maintain strong ethical standards enjoy higher customer loyalty, better employee commitment, and stronger corporate reputation. The study concludes that business ethics plays a vital role in ensuring sustainable growth and profitability in modern organizations. It recommends that financial institutions and other organizations strengthen ethical policies, enforce compliance, and promote ethical awareness among employees in order to enhance long-term performance and competitiveness.
