Abstract

In this study, the performance improvements of a Dual Evaporator Refrigeration Cycle with Suction Line Heat Exchanger and Dedicated Mechanical Subcooling (DEVCRS-DMS-SLHX) are examined for a range of refrigerants. The Coefficient of Performance (COP), refrigeration effect, compressor work, vapour cooling capacity (VCC), exergy efficiency, and sustainability considerations are among the important performance metrics that are the focus of the analysis. This study assessed the following refrigerants: R134A, R290 (Propane), R1234ze (E), R1234yf, R450A, and R440A. The findings show that the refrigeration cycle's performance is much improved when mechanical subcooling and a suction line heat exchanger are combined. The most notable improvements in COP, refrigeration effect, and exergy efficiency are shown by R290 and R1234yf, which is indicative of their excellent efficiency in the optimized cycle configuration. R1234yf is a top contender for environmentally friendly refrigeration applications since it exhibits the largest reduction in ecological effect, according to evaluations of the Sustainability Index and Ecological Factor. The study shows that although all evaluated refrigerants gain from the cycle advancements, the biggest benefits in sustainability and performance are achieved by R290, R1234yf, and R1234ze (E). The results highlight the DEVCRS-DMS-SLHX's efficacy in improving refrigeration cycle efficiency and recommend that, in order to optimize performance and minimize environmental effects, further research concentrate on additional optimization strategies and investigate alternate refrigerants.
