INFLUENCE OF MEDIA AIDS IN TEACHING BIOLOGY IN SOME SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOL IN MAIDUGURI METROPOLIS, BORNO STATE
Abstract
This study titled "The Influence of Media Aids on Students’ Academic Performance in Biology in
some Selected Senior Secondary Schools in Maiduguri" investigates how instructional media such
as PowerPoint and videotaped materials affect students' understanding and performance in
Biology. Chapter One introduces the background of the study, emphasizing the persistent low
achievement in Biology and the need for innovative teaching approaches. Chapter Two reviews
theoretical and empirical literature, highlighting the Stimulus-Response learning theory and
previous studies that establish a link between the availability, accessibility, and utilization of media
aids and improved academic outcomes. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology,
38
adopting a quasi-experimental design involving pre-test and post-test for both experimental and
control groups across two selected secondary schools. In Chapter Four, data analysis reveals that
students exposed to media aids performed significantly better than those taught through traditional
methods, confirming the research hypotheses. Finally, Chapter Five summarizes the findings,
concludes that media aids positively influence students' academic performance, and recommends
provision, accessibility, and teacher training in the use of such aids. The study contributes valuable
insights for educators, policy makers, and stakeholders in improving science education outcomes
through multimedia enhanced instruction.
