Abstract

This project focused on the design and implementation of a web-based cafeteria management system for Adeleke University. The existing manual process often led to long queues, repeated meal claims, and difficulty in tracking student access. To address these issues, a digital solution was developed to improve efficiency and enhance the overall experience for both students and staff. The objective of this project was to design and implement a secure, web-based cafeteria management system for Adeleke University to streamline food registration, clearance verification, meal scheduling, and administrative oversight. The development process followed a modular and user-centered methodology, starting with system requirements gathering and interface design. Using React and TypeScript for the frontend and Tailwind CSS for responsive styling, the system was built to deliver a seamless user experience. Express.js powered the backend logic, while MongoDB ensured secure and flexible data storage. Vite was adopted as the build tool to optimize frontend deployment and enhance development speed. Key features include student registration, dashboard access, clearance approval, meal slot selection, and an admin panel for managing cafeteria operations. To evaluate system performance, a structured questionnaire was administered to a group of 20 participants, including students and cafeteria staff. The evaluation focused on five key metrics: usability, efficiency, reliability, functionality, and user satisfaction. Results revealed that 91.3% of respondents found the system easy to navigate, while 87.5% were able to complete tasks such as registration and scheduling without assistance. Additionally, 84.2% rated the system as fast or very fast, and 92.1% confirmed that all key features worked as expected. Only 7.9% of users reported encountering system errors. Overall, 89.4% of participants expressed satisfaction with the system’s performance. These findings indicate that the platform met its functional and usability objectives, significantly improving cafeteria operations while delivering a smooth and accessible user experience. In summary, the system achieved its goal of streamlining cafeteria processes and improving service delivery. It provides a reliable and scalable model that can be adapted for similar institutions, with potential for future enhancements such as mobile support and biometric verification.
