PRODUCTION OF LUBRICATING GREASE USING PALM KERNEL OIL AND (POLYPROPYLENE) AS ADDITIVE
Abstract
This research investigates the formulation and performance evaluation of lubricating greases using base oils and thickening agents especially with the use of palm kernel oil and polymer as additive. The study aims to produce high-performance greases suitable for industrial and automotive applications An experimental methodology was adopted, involving the synthesis of grease samples under controlled laboratory conditions, followed by standard tests for worked penetration, dropping point, oxidation stability, wear resistance, and water washout resistance. Results show that formulated greases met the requirements for NLGI Grade 2 and 3 respectively. And it showed performance, especially in water resistance, and anti-wear characteristics. The findings highlight the potential for developing customized greases with enhanced performance at competitive costs. This study contributes to sustainable lubrication science and offers practical insights for grease production in various sectors, including automotive, marine, and manufacturing industries.
In conclusion, water resistance lubricating greases of category no 2 and no 3 in NLGI/ ASTM Standards were produced. As shown in table 4.3.
