Abstract

This study investigates the role of the All progressives Congress (APC) in enhancing political participation in Bauchi state, Nigeria. Through a mixed methods approach, the research identifies key strategies employed by the APC, including social media campaigns, community outreach programs and voter education initiatives. The findings reveal that the APC has effectively harnessed digial platforms to engage younger voters, demonstrating a shift from traditional mobilization methods. However, challenges such as voter apathy, accessibility of information and the need for tailored outreach strategies persist, underscoring the importance of continuous adaptation to meet the electorates evolving needs. Additionally, the study evaluates the effectiveness of APCs initiatives in mobilizing citizens to obtain their permanent voter cards (PVCs) and their impact on voter turnout. The findings indicate that while a significant portion of the electorate recognizes the importance of APCs efforts, barriers to participation remain, particularly among marginalized groups. The APCs proactive role in facilitating voter registration and education is acknowledged, yet the study highlights the necessity for improved communication strategies and community engagement to foster a more inclusive political environment. Ultimately, this research contributes to the understanding of political dynamics in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for political parties to adapt their strategies to enhance civic engagement effectively. By addressing the underlying participation, the APC can strengthen its influence and promote a more participatory democracy in Bauchi state and beyond.
