PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF PAW-PAW (CARICA PAPAYA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study investigated the phytochemical constituents of Carica papaya seed using methanol as an extraction solvent. The aim was to determine the presence and relative concentration of bioactive compounds responsible for the plant’s medicinal properties. Qualitative phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids, while alkaloids and carbohydrates were absent. These findings are consistent with previous reports indicating that papaya seeds contain bioactive compounds with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activities. The study supports the traditional use of Carica papaya in herbal medicine and suggests that the seed extract could be a potential source of natural therapeutic agents.
