BAMBOO LEAF EXTRACT NANOPARTICLE FOR THE REMOVAL OF PB, CD, HG, CR, AND AS FROM WASTE DUMPSITE SOIL IN NKWELLE, OYI L.G.A - NIGERIA
Abstract
Heavy metal pollution in waste dumpsites poses significant environmental and health risks. This study evaluates the potential of silver bamboo leaf extract nanoparticles for heavy metal remediation in waste dumpsite soils. The nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy which showed a maximum absorbance peak at 510nm, which confirms the formation of silver nanoparticles, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) which confirmed the presence of organic functional groups, X-ray diffraction (XRD) which showed a major diffraction peak at 43.40°, which confirmed the crystalline nature of the nanoparticles and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the adsorption capacity of the nanoparticles for heavy metals (e.g., lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium and arsenic)
contact time, temperature, dosage). The results showed
remediation in waste dumpsites.
