Abstract

This study examines the impact of agriculture on economic growth in Nigeria from 2000 to 2023 using time‑series data. The research applies descriptive statistics, unit root tests, Johansen cointegration, and an Error Correction Model (ECM). Findings reveal that agricultural output has a positive and significant effect on Nigeria’s GDP in both the short and long run. Exchange rate instability negatively affects growth, implying that macroeconomic stability is crucial for the agricultural sector to thrive. The study recommends increased government investment, stable macroeconomic policies, improved mechanization, and strengthened agricultural value chains.
