EFFECT OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS (A STUDY OF SOME SELECTED SCHOOLS IN MAIDUGURI METROPOLIS)

This study investigated the “effect of anti-social behaviour on students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools (a study of some selected schools in Maiduguri Metropolis”). The study’s objective was to determine; Types of antisocial behaviors engaged by students, Cause of antisocial behavior among students, Effect of antisocial behaviors on student academic performance. The population for the study consist of the entire students of small in the seventeen secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis Borno state Nigeria. As at 2025 the enrollment figure of senior secondary school students in Maiduguri metropolis stood at when the population is 2720 the sample size were 354 of the total population. Thus the Researcher sampled 354 size of students out of the total population which stand at 4514. The Researcher seek for permission from the school authority for conducting the study. Having security permission from appreciate authority and teachers who have tough at the particular period of administrating the instrument. The pupil and teachers where briefed by the Researcher on the purpose of the research and how to fill the questionnaire. The instrument was administered during free period here by the assistance of the teachers, class prefect and under the guidance of the Researcher. Research question was analyzed using percentage. So as to determine the types causes and effects of antisocial behaviors on Students academic performance in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis Borno state Nigeria. A statistical procedure was used to analysis the data generated from the instrument descriptive statistics. the findings of the present study with earlier studies which are conducted in this particular area. Anti-social behaviors are the harmful and uncooperative actions of the people characterized by and covert hostility and deliberate aggression towards other individuals. It is perceived that such behaviors occurs due to the results of unsatisfactory psychological, social or emotional development of children at home and under socialization in the community. Therefore the present study was undertaken to investigate the reason of antisocial behaviors of male students at secondary level public schools. Through perception of the research subjects ,major causes of students Anti-social behaviors where explored and are discussed as under teachers can play a vital role in the trajectory of students as well as they are uniquely capable up to provide assistance in learning appropriate behaviors and prevent problematic or negative behaviors among students( Baker,Grant,Morlock,2008). Finally the study recommends that: Parents who neglect their parental responsibility should pay more attention towards their children activities. Parents should be encouraged to show more love, empathy, and guidance towards their children.
