THE IMPORTANCE OF UNITY AMONG MUSLIM PREACHERS IN MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE

ABSTRACT This study assessed the importance of unity among Islamic preachers in Maiduguri. This study was guided by three objectives and three research questions were answered. This research design adopted qualitative research design. The population and sample for this study was 15 respondents respectively. A self-developed questionnaire named Importance of unity among Islamic Preachers. The data collected was analyzed semi-structured interviews and FGDs were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of this research study showed that there is no unity among the Islamic preachers. When the scholars are divided, it leaves a vacuum that extremists take advantage of our unity can’t protect the younger generation from falling into violent ideologies. It was then recommended that Organize Regular Dialogue Meetings so that Muslim preachers from all groups should meet regularly to discuss common issues and resolve differences peacefully. Emphasize Islamic teachings on brotherhood: Islamic scholars should constantly teach and remind preachers and the Muslim community about the importance of unity.
