Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the bacteria of vegetable in Calabar metropolis. This study was carried in University of Cross River State. Samples were collected with a sterilize poly bag and transported to microbiology laboratory, UNICROSS. Microbiological techniques were used to isolate the bacteria in the study. The identification of bacteria was based on Gram reaction and biochemical analysis. The result show that the total heterotrophic bacterial count (THBC) ranged between 3.5 x10-5ml and while the total coliform (TC) ranged from 5.9 x 10-5ml. The biochemical analysis revealed (7) distinct bacteria; Citrobacter sp (12.5%), Staphylococcus sp (18.75), E.coli sp (12.5%) Providencia sp (12.5%), Kluyvera sp (12.5%), Cronobacter sp (12.5%) which are all members of the enterobacteriaceae.
