DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE COURIER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
The global courier and logistics industry is rapidly transforming due to e-commerce growth and increasing customer demands for speed and transparency. Yet, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) still depend on manual systems, resulting in inefficiencies and poor service quality. This project presents the design and implementation of a web-based Online Courier Management System (OCMS) to address these challenges. Developed using the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and a three-tier client-server architecture, the system employs PHP for backend logic, a MySQL database for data management, and HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap for a responsive frontend. Key features include user registration with role-based access, parcel booking with tracking, real-time status updates, and administrative dashboards for efficient management. The system automates courier operations, minimizes human error, and enhances transparency among customers and administrators. The project demonstrates that an open-source, cost-effective web solution can significantly improve operational efficiency for SMEs. Future enhancements may include online payment integration, route optimization, SMS alerts, and mobile applications for extended functionality.
