INTEGRATION OF IOT DRIVEN SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR SUSTAINABLE RICE FARMING IN BAYARA AREA OF BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Rice farmers in the Bayara ,located within Bauchi local government area(LGA) face challenges
with water shortages and unreliable harvests. To help solve this, we designed and tested a lowcost,
automated
watering
system.
This
system
uses
sensors
to
continuously
check
conditions
in
the
field
and
wirelessly
sends
this
information
to
the
ThingSpeak
cloud
platform,
allowing
farmers
to
check
the
data
from
anywhere.
The
design
avoids
complex
and
expensive
setups,
and
rather
focuses
on
low-cost, easy for farmers to use, and simple to operate; qualities that are important for the
local community. Testing proved that the system works very well. The moisture sensors were highly
accurate with only a 1.7% error, and the network connection was reliable, with a 97.6% success
rate in sending data. The system’s automatic controls consistently kept the soil moisture between
15% and 22%, which is the ideal range for healthy plant growth. The results show that this system
can significantly help save water and lead to more dependable harvests. While the system needs a
reliable power source to be used widely, this project provides a fully tested and affordable model
that can help promote more environmentally friendly farming methods in Bayara.
