Abstract

ABSTRACT Lead (Pb) is a toxic heavy metal known to induce oxidative stress and organ damage, particularly in the liver and kidneys. This study investigated the protective effects of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) against Pb‑induced hepatic and renal injury in male Wistar rats. Thirty rats were divided into six groups and treated with lead, mushroom supplementation, or their combination for 21 days. Biochemical markers, antioxidant parameters, and histological analyses were evaluated. Results showed that Pleurotus ostreatus supplementation significantly ameliorated Pb‑induced alterations in liver and kidney function markers, improved antioxidant status, and preserved tissue architecture. The findings suggest that oyster mushroom possesses significant hepatoprotective and renoprotective potential against lead toxicity.
