PREDICTING BODY WEIGHT BASED ON GENDER, HEIGHT, AND AGE: AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FACTORS INFLUENCING WEIGHT VARIATION
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This work established a linear relationship between weight and some students’ variable (Age, Height and Gender) in Akwa Ibom State University. A sample of 617 Students was drawn from the Medical Centre of the Institution’s Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Akwa Ibom State. Some exploratory residual analyses were carried out to test its validity graphically. A Multiple Regression method is used to establish the relationship between the weight and the Students variable. The weight is considered to be the dependent variable since it is normally distributed Michael et al (2017), and the predicted variables are age, height and gender. The result of the analysis showed that there is a linear relationship between weight and the variables under study through the equation y 54.9695 +0.4025x1 – 0.0277x2 5.2802x3, the result from the ANOVA (F Test) shows that the parameters are significant to the regression model, And the percentage of variations in the dependent variable, explained by the model is 82,4%. The result from the diagnostic test shows that the residuals have meet the stated (required) assumptions. However, not all the independent variables contribute significantly to the model, the result from the Independent t-test shows that Age (X1) and Gender coded as dummy variable (X3) have an effect on the model, while height (X2) does not have.
