Abstract

ABSTRACT Studies on the Physical,Chemical and Biological Properties of Industrial Water obtainedI from Niger flour mills was conducted. Waste water was collected from point of mixing of flour (point 1), storage of raw materials (point 2) and point of washing of wheat (point 3). Metals isolated in milligramns per litre (mg/1) included iron (fe).0.02+0.01, 0.99±0.39 and 0.99±0.01 from the three points respectively. Zinc(Zn)0.76±0.04,1.22±0.22 and 0.99±0.08 respectively. Chromiam (Cr) 0.003±0.003,0.047±0.04,0.001±0.00 respectively.Copper (Cu) 0.01±0.00, 0.07±0.03 and 0.243±0.05respectively Manganese (Mn). 0.01±0.003, 0.073±0.04 and 0.100 and 0.100±0.01respectively. The concentrations of these metals was significantly difference using t-test statistical analysis at p>0.05 (Table 1). Yeast Asperthis, Fusarium, Penicilliumand Trichophyton species were fungal isolated from the water. The percentages of each of the isolates are shown on table 2. Bacterial isolation included Enterobacter, Klebsiella, E.Coli and Streptococcus other included, Bacillus, Staphylococcuss, citrobacter and Pseudomonas. Percentages of the different bacterial isolates are shown on table 3.Comparison of prevalence of Bacterial isolates from the three points showed significant Differences at P>0.05. It is advisable to ensure proper disposal of wasted water from Niger mills Calabar to avoid pollution of surrounding, water bodies, farmlands and plants within the vicinity of the mills. Also inhabitants of them are needed for protection to avoid contamination of domestic water and sources.
