DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MICROCONTROLLER-BASED 5KVA INVERTER USING SOLAR ENERGY
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project aims at creating an effective power outage solution for the department of Computer Engineering, featuring a 5KVA solar-powered inverter system based on a microcontroller. As the need for a lasting alternative to the traditional electricity is of the increase, so as to handle day-to-day tasks effectively and efficiently, this project seeks to ensure sustainability and better power output that last longer. Key components for this design include photovoltaic panel (PV) panels, a charge controller, battery banks, a 5kVA inverter circuit and a PIC16F877A microcontroller for managing and controlling the system. Photovoltaic panels will convert sunlight into electrical energy, which is then stored in the battery banks through the charge controller. The methodology used to achieve this project is the pulse-width modulation technique, the ensures that the 5kVA inverter circuit will convert this stored DC power into AC power, used by appliances. The microcontroller will manage the entire system, ensuring optimal performance, efficient energy consumption and protection from overloads. This project does not only illustrate the practicality and essence of renewable energy for various applications but to serve as an educational material for understanding the integration of microcontrollers, power systems, and electronics. The end product will be an efficient, environment friendly, and sustainable power backup system for the computer engineering department of this institution.
