Abstract

This project presents the design and construction of a microcontroller-based programmable training kit using the Arduino Uno board. The training kit is intended to serve as an educational tool for demonstrating the principles of microcontroller programming and device interfacing. The system integrates both hardware and software to provide a practical platform for learning the basics of embedded systems. In the modified design, an Infrared Motion Detector Sensor and a Gas Detector Sensor were incorporated to demonstrate real-life applications of microcontrollers in safety and automation systems. The infrared motion detector sensor is used to detect human presence, while the gas detector sensor is employed to sense harmful or combustible gases in the environment. When either of these sensors is triggered, the Arduino Uno processes the input signal and activates the light and buzzer as output indicators, thereby simulating an alarm system. This demonstrates the concept of event-driven programming, sensor integration, and real-time response. The system also includes other interfacing units such as a 16x2 LCD display for visual output and a keypad interface for data entry and system control. Although the initial LED dancing experiments such as cyclic and swap operations were disconnected during modification, the training kit still fulfills its aim by providing a versatile and practical platform for understanding microcontroller operations, input/output control, and sensor-based applications.
