Abstract

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies has opened new opportunities for improving healthcare delivery and patient engagement. This project, titled “Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Chatbot System for Enhanced Patient Care at Borno State General Hospital,” focuses on developing an intelligent virtual assistant designed to facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers. The chatbot system is developed to provide instant responses to patients’ inquiries, including information about hospital services, appointment scheduling, doctor availability, drug prescriptions, and health tips. It aims to minimize waiting times, reduce the workload on hospital staff, and ensure efficient dissemination of information to patients around the clock. The system was implemented using Python as the primary programming language, integrating Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to enable the chatbot to understand and respond accurately to user queries. The architecture includes modules for user interaction, intent detection, response generation, and database connectivity, ensuring a smooth and intelligent conversational flow. This intelligent chatbot system demonstrates how AI-driven solutions can significantly enhance patient care and hospital efficiency. By automating routine communication and service requests, the system supports healthcare professionals in focusing on more critical tasks while improving overall patient satisfaction.
