Abstract

ABSTRACT Avocado oil, a rich source of nutrients and bioactive compounds has gained popularity of its culinary and cosmetic uses. The study aimed to determine the essential oil and free fatty acids (FFA) content in avocado oil. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and titration methods, we analyzed the essential oil composition and FFA content in avocado oil samples. The results show that the essential oil fraction contains various concentrations or percentages of the following compound. (i) 9,12 -octadecadienoic, methyl ester -20.122% (ii) undecylenic acid- 2.332% (iii)1 dedecanol =3.321% octadecenal-0.0001% (vi) erucic acid= 0.0001% etc (iv) palmitaldehyde -3.720% (v) 9 Also the FFA and the saponification, FFA=13.7g/ml Sap=0.0035g/ml respectively. CONCLUSION, the finding show that essential oil from avocados peer is a natural source of nutrients with potential applications of FFA in the pharmaceutical and food Industry.
