Abstract

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the design and construction of a table saw machine for effective wood cutting operations. The design involved determining the required power, torque, and cutting speed of the saw blade, after which suitable materials were selected for fabrication. The machine components, including the frame, motor, and circular blade, were assembled using welding and mechanical fastening techniques. Theoretical calculations were carried out to obtain the cutting force and rotational speed, with a motor rating of 1200 W at 4500 rpm selected to drive the blade. The fabricated table saw was tested with hardwood and softwood samples at varying thicknesses, and it was observed that the machine produced accurate cuts with minimal vibration. The calculated efficiency of the machine was approximately 76%, indicating reliable performance for small- to medium-scale woodworking. This project is relevant as it provides a low-cost, locallyfabricated alternative to imported machines, thereby promoting self-reliance and supporting smallscale carpentry industries.
