Two hundred and ninety- seven (297) students of GOU participated in the study comprising (140 males and 157 females) drawn from four faculties of the university. The participants ages range from 16-25 years with a mean age of 15.85 ( M = 20.84 ; SD = 1.41 ) . Three instruments were used for data collection; Academic Engagement Scale Gerlich, Browning and Westermann (2010), Goal Orientation Scale (Schaufeli & Bakker 2003) and Social Media Affinity Scale(Vande Walle 1997). Three hypotheses were tested in the study. Result of regression analysis showed that goal orientation ( beta = 0.33 , t = 6.03 p < 0.001 ) and gender ( beta = 0.14 , t = 2.39 p < 0.01 ) significantly predicted academic engagement of student. Social media use did not significantly predict academic engagement of student. Implications of the findings were stated. Limitations and suggestions/recommendation were made for further studies.
