DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF HOSTEL RESERVATION SYSTEM
Abstract
The design and implementation of a hostel reservation system aims to address the inefficiencies associated with manual hostel booking and management in educational institutions. Traditional hostel allocation methods often lead to delays, double booking, administrative bottlenecks, and data loss. This study proposes a web-based hostel reservation system that automates the booking process, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility for students and administrators. The system is developed using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, incorporating features such as secure authentication, real-time room availability updates, online payments, automated notifications, and an administrative dashboard. A comprehensive literature review evaluates existing hostel management systems, highlighting their strengths and limitations. The system design is presented with detailed use case diagrams, system flowcharts, and functional requirements. System testing and evaluation indicate that the proposed hostel reservation system minimizes errors, enhances transparency, and improves user experience compared to manual processes. The study concludes that adopting an automated hostel booking system enhances efficiency, reduces administrative workload, and improves student convenience. Future recommendations include mobile app development, AI-driven support, enhanced security measures, and cloud-based integration to further optimize system performance.
