Abstract

Drinking water has been a problem in Nigeria. This research work was Aimed to determine the effects of Anthropogenic activities on the Physicochemical quality of the Effurun river in Delta state Uvwie local government for a period of four months (March to June 2025). Water sample were collected from the three different stations of the water body for analysis and taken to the laboratory for a standard analysis. The result obtained from the Physicochemical parameters of water sample showed that the pH in station 1 ranges from 6.1 to 8.51 indicating a range from slightly acidic or alkaline, station 2 and 3 showed range of 7.0 which shows that it is neutral. Temperature ranges from 24.5°C to 30.6°C a normal ranges for tropical rivers most especially in Nigeria during warmer climate. BOD station 1 ranges from - 6mh/L to 9.8mg/l highest among the three stations, site 2and 3 ranges from 0.0 mg/L to 2.0 mg/L making it a good sign for water quality . DO level ranged from 1.9 mg/L low to 17.2 mg/L high showing change in oxygen level. Electrical conductivity (EC) 0.0 mg/l showing zero concentration of salts, The value of Nitrates, Ammonia, and Chloride ranged from 0.4mg/l to 0.9mg/l , 0.1mg/l to 0.8mg/l, 0.01 to 0.48 mg/l. These parameters are crucial for understanding water quality. This study shown that an unsatisfactory level of these parameters that was studied in the three different locations Binding to human activities pollution along the river
