Abstract

Abstract Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae poses a significant challenge to healthcare due to its resistance to multiple antibiotics, leading to limited treatment options. This study evaluates the prevalence and detection methods of ESBL- producing K. pneumoniae in Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. Over a 12-month period, 30 clinical isolates were collected and identified using standard microbiological techniques. ESBL production was screened using the Double-Disc Synergy Test (DDST) and confirmed by the Combination Disk Test (CDT) and E-test, with genotypic confirmation via Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for bla_TEM, bla_SHV, and bla_CTX-M genes.
