APPLICATION OF SPLIT PLOT DESIGN IN AGRICULTURE A CASE STUDY OF UMMA FARM, MARIGA NIGER (2021-2024)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the application of Split Plot Design in agricultural research at Umma Farm, Mariga (2021–2024). It aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the design in experiments involving multiple factors such as fertilizer type, maize variety, and plot conditions. Secondary data collected from Umma Farm were analyzed using Split-Plot ANOVA with Microsoft Excel’s Real Statistics Toolpack. Results showed no significant differences among fertilizer types, maize varieties, or their interactions at the 0.05 level, indicating similar performance across treatments. However, the Split Plot Design proved efficient in managing complex field experiments, minimizing errors, and conserving resources. The study concludes that Split Plot Design is a reliable and cost-effective framework for agricultural research and recommends its continued use in large-scale experimental studies with adequate replication and proper statistical analysis.
