DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NOISE LEVEL MONITOR AND CONTROLLER SYSTEM
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the design and construction of a noise level monitor and
controller system aimed at addressing the growing problem of noise pollution in
schools, workplaces, industries, and residential areas. The system integrates a sound
sensor module, microcontroller (Arduino Uno), display unit, buzzer, and relay
control circuit to monitor noise levels in real-time and automatically respond when
preset thresholds are exceeded. The device was programmed to trigger a buzzer alert
when noise levels reached 65–75 dB and to activate a relay for protective shutdown
of connected devices at noise levels above 80 dB. Tests conducted in classrooms,
workshops, laboratories, and outdoor environments confirmed the system’s ability
to detect and display noise levels with an accuracy of ±3 dB compared to a standard
sound meter. The results demonstrate that the system is both reliable and costeffective, making it suitable for deployment in environments where excessive noise
poses risks to human health, communication, and equipment performance. Unlike
conventional noise meters that only measure sound intensity, this system provides
both monitoring and control functions, enhancing its practical relevance. It offers a
low-cost solution for ensuring safer and more comfortable environments while
contributing to sustainable noise management practices.
