ADVANCED EXERGY ANALYSIS OF ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION CYCLE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study provides a comprehensive exergy analysis of an absorption refrigeration cycle using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) to quantify and compare exergy losses across different components of the system. The analysis focuses on the generator, absorber, condenser, and evaporator, which are pivotal to the cycle's efficiency. The EES simulation results reveal the following exergy destruction values for each component: the generator exhibits the highest exergy destruction at approximately 930 kW, due to the irreversibilities associated with high-temperature heat input and refrigerant desorption. The absorber shows substantial exergy destruction of 178.54 kW, attributed to the mixing of refrigerant and absorbent and heat rejection processes. The evaporator, responsible for the primary cooling effect, has an exergy destruction of approximately 294.56 kW, while the condenser, despite beingthemostefficientcomponentwithanexergydestructionof5.07kW,stillcontributesto overall system inefficiencies. The solution pump, with minimal exergy destruction of 5 kW, influences the system's performance through mechanical work input. The total exergy destruction across the system is calculated as 822.4 kJ, highlighting the significantcumulative inefficiencies. The overall system efficiency, based on exergy analysis, is foundto be approximately 57.14%, indicating that there is substantial room for performance improvement.
