DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF TEXT ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM USING DATA ENCRYPTION STANDARD
Abstract
This project develops a cryptographic application based on the Data Encryption Standard (DES) for secure text transformation. The system implements the full DES Feistel architecture, including key scheduling, expansion, substitution, permutation, and 16-round iterative processing. The design employs a symmetric 56-bit key to produce deterministic ciphertext and ensure reversibility through the inverse decryption routine. Experimental validation confirms correct algorithmic behavior, stable throughput, and preservation of plaintext integrity after decryption. Although DES exhibits limited resistance to exhaustive key-search attacks, the implementation demonstrates its continued pedagogical relevance and suitability for low-security text protection. The system provides a foundation for future enhancement toward stronger ciphers such as 3DES or AES.
Full-Text Access Notice
In accordance with the NERD Policy on promoting peer-reviewed publication, public access to the full text of a project, thesis or dissertation is restricted for three years, allowing the author and supervisors sufficient time to pursue peer-reviewed publication.
During this period, researchers with legitimate academic or research purposes may request authorisation directly from the author to enable NERD to release the indexed full texts of the work using the form below.
