THE PROTECTIVE ROLE AND EVALUATION OF CUCURBITA PEPO SEED OIL (CPSO) AS ADJUVANT THERAPIES IN METHOTREXATE-INDUCED TOXICITY IN SERUM LIPID PROFILE IN FEMALE WISTAR RATS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Methotrexate (MTX) is a widely used chemotherapeutic and immunosuppressive agent whose clinical application is often limited by severe adverse effects, particularly hepatotoxicity and dysregulation of lipid metabolism. This study investigated the protective role of Cucurbita pepo seed oil (CPSO) in mitigating methotrexate-induced toxicity on the serum lipid profile in female Wistar rats. The rats were divided into groups and administered methotrexate to induce toxicity, followed by treatment with CPSO as an adjuvant therapy. Serum lipid profile parameters including total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TAG) were measured. Results showed that administration of methotrexate significantly elevated (p
