PLATO’S IDEAL OF PHILOSOPHER KINGS AND NIGREIA LEADERSHIP CRISIS: A PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
This study explores Nigeria’s leadership crisis through the lens of Plato’s concept of the philosopher-king, emphasizing the need for morally upright, wise, and service-driven leaders. It argues that leadership in Nigeria has been undermined by corruption, ethnic favoritism, and a lack of ethical commitment. Drawing from classical and African political thought, particularly the ideas of Plato and Obafemi Awolowo, the work advocates for a redefined leadership model grounded in justice, civic responsibility, and the common good. The study concludes that Nigeria’s path to progress lies in cultivating visionary leaders and reforming institutions to reflect values of integrity and public service.
