Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the phytochemical constituents, heavy metal content, and vitamin C composition of the leaf extract of Napoleonaea imperialis. The study employed standard qualitative methods for phytochemical screening, which revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and steroids, while betacyanins, carbohydrates, coumarins, proteins, phlobatannins, resins, and others were not detected. Heavy metal analysis using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy showed measurable levels of cadmium (0.028 mg/kg) and chromium (0.015 mg/kg), with lead and nickel found to be below detectable limits, indicating a relatively low toxicological risk based on WHO standards. Additionally, the extract demonstrated a high concentration of vitamin C (220.00 mg/100 g), signifying considerable antioxidant capacity. These findings substantiate the traditional medicinal applications of Napoleonaea imperialis, and suggest that its leaves may serve as a safe and potent source of natural antioxidants and bioactive compounds. Further studies involving quantitative phytochemical analysis and in vivo evaluations are recommended to validate and expand upon these results.
