MECHANICAL AND MICROSTRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF ONE PART GEOPOLYMER
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
The aim of the project is to comprehensively investigate the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of geopolymer materials synthesized using a one-part formulation, aiming to advance understanding and utilization of these materials in sustainable construction applications.Characterize raw materials for making one part geopolymers. Produce one part geopolymers.Investigate the mechanical and microstructural properties of the geopolymers. Compare performance of one part geopolymers to two-part geopolymers. The materials used for this research work includes Kaolin (clay) from Ugaga community of Yala local government area in Cross River State, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) gotten from Ibrahadad chemicals, a honey well distributors, sodium carbonate was purchased in liquid gel from Mike Ene chemicals i9n Uyo, distilled water, shovel, plastic bowl, Gallenkamp muffle furnace, electronic compact scale, sieve for filtering, a thermometer for temperature gradient. While other tools includes; X-Ray Diffractive Tester (XRD) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF).The clay used for this research was obtained from a deposit in Ugaga, Yala local government area of Cross River state. The clay was harvested (dug) from the heap of deposit then sieved to remove dirts, stones and other unwanted tu6rcontents leaving pure clay. The clay was washed to remove excess dust, dried till moisture content is removed at room temperature then grinded using a blender into finite sizes to enhance blending and proper missing with activators then bagged using a nylon bagged to avoid moisture. Other methodology includes; calination of the kaolinte, preparation of activators, mixing procedures and sample preparation of geopolymer binders, characterization of kaolin using XRD and XRF.
