Abstract

This study investigates how regional sensitivity shapes communication patterns and perception differences between Northern and Southern students of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi. Nigeria’s socio-cultural diversity significantly influences interpersonal communication, social integration, and perception formation among students in higher institutions. Using a quantitative survey research design, data were collected from 200 students across different departments. The findings reveal that regional identity plays a substantial role in communication styles, perception of social inclusion, and intergroup interaction. While most students demonstrate tolerance and willingness to collaborate, subtle differences in cultural values, language preference, and social grouping persist. The study concludes that fostering intercultural dialogue and inclusive communication strategies can enhance unity and reduce perception gaps within the institution.
