Abstract

This study investigates the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a tool for creating job opportunities at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Nigeria. The research aims to determine if ICT can generate employment, identify specific ICT-related job types, and propose strategies to enhance ICT infrastructure, training, and partnerships. A descriptive survey design was employed, collecting primary data from 120 respondents, including students, faculty, and staff, through questionnaires, supplemented by secondary data from literature reviews. Findings reveal that 80% of respondents agree that ICT creates job opportunities, with specific roles in software development (80%), digital marketing (77.5%), data analysis (75%), and IT support (80%). Key barriers include inadequate ICT infrastructure (82.5%), low ICT literacy (82.5%), and high costs of ICT tools (82.5%). Proposed solutions include enhanced infrastructure (85%), ICT training programs (90%), and partnerships with ICT firms (87.5%). The study concludes that ICT significantly contributes to job creation at the university but requires improved infrastructure, training, and collaborations to maximize its potential.
