EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION ON STUDENTS LEARNING OUTCOMES IN BIOLOGY CLASSROOM IN SOME SELECTED SCHOOLS IN ONDO WEST LOCAL GOOVERNMENT AREA, ONDO STATE
Abstract
The study investigated effect of technology integration on students learning outcomes in Biology classrooms in some selected schools in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo. Four research questions and one hypothesis were raised to guide the study. The study makes use of descriptive survey. One hundred students were sampled as respondents to the research instrument structured to answer the research questions. The data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for the research questions and t - test for the research hypothesis. The study found that current level of technology integration in Biology classrooms in Ondo West Secondary Schools is satisfactory. Adequate technology resources such as computers and projectors are available, and teachers use technology to explain complex Biology concepts, making lessons more engaging. Technology positively impacts student engagement and understanding by increasing interest, focus, active participation, and motivation through interactive tools. Visual aids like simulations further improve understanding of complex topics. However, challenges such as technical issues, poor connectivity, limited access to technology, and the cost of devices and software remain significant. Strategies to address these challenges include providing more teacher training, increasing student access to digital devices, partnering with technology companies, creating more interactive content, and allocating additional funding for technology integration. The study recommended that students should take full advantage of available technology tools, such as simulations and digital resources, to enhance their understanding of complex Biology concepts.
