LAW OF SUCCESSION AND INHERITANCE IN NIGERIA: AN EXAMINATION
Abstract
Abstract
Nigeria's vast cultural diversity, historical setting, and legal plurality are all reflected in the country's varied and vibrant field of inheritance and succession law. The practices of passing down money and property from one generation to the next are firmly rooted in Nigeria's numerous ethnic groups, each of which has its own unique customs, norms, and traditions. These indigenous customary practices have changed and altered over the years in response to shifting cultural norms and outside influences.
Prior to the establishment of colonial administration, Customary Law, which was notably different among Nigeria's various ethnic groups, governed most inheritance and succession issues.
