Abstract

This project focuses on the systematic design, material selection, and fabrication of a functional and ergonomic lecture podium, intended for use in academic and professional environment. The primary objective of this project is to develop a podium that ensures user comfort, structural stability, aesthetic appeal, and ease of fabrication while maintaining cost effectiveness. The design process involves analyzing user requirements, ample storage for documents/ devices, multimedia compatibility (microphone slots). The fabrication involves selection of durable materials such as wood and fittings, the rapid integration of technology into classrooms including projectors, computers, and sound systems demands podiums that can accommodate these devices efficiently. Many existing designs fail to incorporate spaces for wiring, device storage, and adjustment mechanisms. Overall, the project demonstrates that with proper planning, design, and fabrication, a high-quality podium can be produced locally using affordable materials. This contributes to improved teaching efficiency and provides a model for future podium designs in educational institutions. Introduce adjustable height mechanisms to support users of different statures, including persons with disabilities.
