SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MAGNESIUM (II) METAL COMPLEX WITH SCHIFF BASE LIGAND DRIVED FROM CONDENSATION OF VANILLIN AND ETHYLENEDIAMINE
Abstract
This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of a magnesium (II) chloride complex with a Schiff base ligand derived from vanillin and ethylenediamine. The Schiff base ligand was synthesized through the condensation reaction of vanillin and ethylenediamine, followed by complexation with magnesium (II) chloride. The resulting complex was characterized using various techniques, including melting point determination, solubility tests and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The IR spectral data confirmed the coordination of the ligand to the magnesium ion through the azomethine nitrogen and phenolic oxygen atoms, indicating the formation of a stable complex. The study demonstrates the potential of magnesium-Schiff base complexes in materials science, catalysis, and pharmaceutical applications
