Abstract

Abstract This project was carried out in Billiri Town on “Problems of Open Defecation ”. The objective of the study is to investigate the prevalence of open defecation in Billiri Town. A descriptive survey design was employed in collecting data through questionnaire and oral interview. The target population was seventy five respondents (75), simple random technique was used in selecting the respondent and the data obtained was analyzed and presented in a frequency distribution table. Furthermore, the finding shows that 18 (24.0%) of the respondents were between the ages of 18–25, 24 (32.0%) were between 26–35 years, 20 (26.7%) were within the age group of 36–45 years, while 13 (17.3%) were 46 years and above. 22 (29.3%) of the respondents were single, 39 (52.0%) were married, 8 (10.7%) were divorced, and 6 (8.0%) were widowed. 30 (40.0%) of the respondents had access to a private or shared toilet facility at home, while 45 (60.0%) reported that they did not have access. 62 (82.7%) of respondents believe building more toilets would reduce open defecation, 6 (8.0%) did not think so, while 7 (9.3%) were not sure. This recommended that government and NGOs should prioritize the construction of affordable, accessible toilet facilities, especially in high-risk zones.
