DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF VEHICLE PARKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
The rapid growth of urbanization and vehicle ownership has intensified parking challenges in modern cities, leading to congestion, inefficiency and loss of revenue due to manual management practices. In response, this project presents the design, development and evaluation of a web-based Smart Parking Management System (Smart Park) aimed at automating core parking operations through a secure, scalable and real-time digital platform. The system was implemented using a three-tier architecture built on PHP, MySQL and HTML/CSS, integrating role-based access control (RBAC), automated fee calculation and real-time slot monitoring to ensure operational accuracy and security. Comprehensive testing confirmed full compliance with functional and non-functional requirements, achieving average transaction latency below 2 seconds and complete protection against SQL injection through the use of prepared statements. The system demonstrated significant improvements in revenue tracking, user experience and administrative oversight compared to traditional manual systems. However, limitations such as the absence of IoT-based sensors and mobile integration were noted. Future enhancements are proposed, including the incorporation of IoT hardware for autonomous vehicle detection, mobile applications for user pre-booking and predictive analytics for dynamic pricing. This study underscores the importance of secure, data-driven automation in achieving efficient, intelligent and sustainable urban parking management
