Abstract

ABSTRACT This project presents the design and development of an automated gate control system using a microcontroller integrated with a digital counter for efficient access management. The system aims to enhance security, operational efficiency, and real time monitoring in access control applications. The design system employs an Arduino Nano (ATmega328P) microcontroller interfaced with ultrasonic sensors for vehicle and human detection, a keypad for authorized user input, relay modules for gate actuation, an LCD for real-time status display, and a digital counter (IC 4025) to track entries and exits. The hardware architecture ensures reliable communication between components, enabling swift response to sensor inputs and user commands. The software logic includes access authentication, gate operation control, counter updating, and status reporting. Extensive calibration and testing confirmed system performance, showing that the ultrasonic sensors respond in approximately 85ms, the counter accuracy reached 99.8% per trigger, and the relay switching delay averaged 10ms. Power supply outputs of 5.02V and 11.95V DC were maintained under load, ensuring stable operation. The system demonstrated continuous operation for over three hours without failure, validating robustness, accuracy, and reliability. This project demonstrates that microcontroller-based automation combined with digital counting provides cost-effective, precise, and efficient solution for access control, suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial environments
