EFFECT OF SEED PRIMING AND TREATMENT ON THE GERMINATION OF BLACK PLUM (VITEX DONIANA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
A study was carried out to investigate the effects of sulphuric acid, sand priming and soaking of seed in water treatments on the germination and early growth of Black Plum (Vitex doniana) Seeds were planted in poly pots for germination. 20 seeds of Black Plum (two per poly pot) with ten replicates each were used. The highest germination was recorded in seeds soaked in water for 36 hours. Germination was observed to below or slow in untreated (control) seeds. While there was poor or no response in growth of seed treated with sand priming and that of the seeds soaked in sulphuric acid of 100% Concentration for 30 minutes. These methods could be applied to desirable promotes seed germination in Black plum.
